Richard Trevithick
The Cornish engineer (1771–1833) who pioneered high-pressure steam. Appointed engineer at Ding Dong in 1796, where he and William West rebuilt a Bull-type atmospheric engine to work at high pressure — an arrangement successful enough to be in demand across Cornwall and South Wales, and to draw an injunction from James Watt for infringing the Boulton and Watt condenser patent.
