Of Llantarnam Abbey, member of parliament for the Monmouth Boroughs, owner of the Porthmawr levels at Upper Cwmbran from the late 1830s; he shipped the colliery's first coal from Caerleon in December 1837 and advertised it in the London papers as similar in quality to Tredegar coal.
