Pilkington Brothers

The St Helens glassmakers, who prospected for coal near Dentons Green from the 1830s, sank pits at Eccleston and elsewhere to fuel their works, and sank Alexandra Colliery in 1867. Their collieries were brought into the St Helens Colliery Company in 1876, but the local papers went on calling the pit theirs.
