Northumberland Whinstone Company Ltd

Formed in 1876 and the first registered company at Longhoughton Quarry, where it was working by 1887. Kelly's Directory of 1902 records a hundred men under manager Andrew Anderson, and in 1914 the company supplied setts and crushed whinstone to Ashington Urban District Council. It introduced the quarry's tramways, worked at first by horses, and was still operating from the quarry in 1932.
