Moresby Coal Co., Ltd.
Incorporated 22 September 1877 with £100,000 capital to work a 4,000-acre coking-coal royalty leased from the Earl of Lonsdale across Distington, Moresby, Hensingham and Weddicar. It sank Walkmill in 1879 and Oatlands in 1880, added “Ltd” to its name in 1890, and was bought by the Workington Iron & Steel Company in the 1920s while keeping its own name. Wound up voluntarily on 6 August 1954.
