Ministry of Supply
The wartime department responsible for securing raw materials for British industry. It reopened Benallt in 1939 and requisitioned it outright in 1941 when Atlantic shipping losses cut off imported manganese ore, bringing in South Wales colliers and Cornish tin miners and trialling magnetometer surveys to locate concealed ore.
