Matthew Featherstonhaugh
Lessee of the Purfleet chalk-pits, three limekilns and two wharfs from 1738 on a 61-year term. Later of Hassenbrook in Stanford-le-Hope and of Uppark House in Sussex, he was created a baronet and sat as MP for Portsmouth from 1762 to 1774. His company traded variously as the Bricklayers Co., the Lime Co. and the Purfleet Co.
