Lord Cawdor
The Campbells of Stackpole, created Earls Cawdor in 1827, acquired the Ystradffin estate in Carmarthenshire in the early 18th century chiefly for its highly profitable Nantymwyn lead mine, which formed a major part of the family's substantial Welsh income until the mine closed during the Great Depression in 1931.
