Lewis Merthyr Consolidated Collieries Ltd

Lewis Merthyr Consolidated Collieries Ltd was formed in 1900 by the industrialist W.T. Lewis (later Lord Merthyr), uniting several Rhondda pits that by then employed around 5,000 men and produced close to a million tons of coal a year. The colliery closed in 1983 and its site is now the Rhondda Heritage Park.
