Kimmeridge Oil and Carbon Company Limited

Formed in 1883 out of the Sanitary Carbon Company of Wareham, which had been set up to convert Kimmeridge shale into a coke for filtering sewage. It built a longer tramway, a new pier and a shaft linked underground to the earlier adits, and was listed in the 1887 Mineral Statistics as a producer of cement stone, but never worked at scale; by 1891 a single Kimmeridge resident described himself as a shale miner.
