A Monmouthshire colliery owner who took ownership of the Tir Nicholas (later Cwmtillery) colliery in 1852, increased its shafts and deepened the mine to 240 yards. He is also recorded as having opened the Black Vein Colliery at Risca in the early 1840s for the Risca Iron and Coal Company.
