John Ellis of Leicester

Manager of the Swithland Wood slate quarries by the mid-nineteenth century, when slate in the Great Pit was being taken from more than 180 feet. He was also chairman of the Midland Railway, whose London terminus at St Pancras was roofed with the slate.
