John Christie
John Christie (1824–1902), Lanarkshire coalmaster, arboriculturalist and landowner, son of the colliery-owner and ironfounder Alexander Christie of Old Monkland. He inherited coal and iron interests in Ayrshire, Midlothian and Clackmannanshire in 1859, held Milnwood Colliery from 1865 to 1880, and in 1865 bought and renamed the Cowden Castle estate between Dollar and Muckhart.
