J. R. Fosdick
The sinker and first owner of Fitzwilliam Main, who put the shaft down to the Shafton seam between 1876 and 1880 and held the colliery until 1881; he was advised by H.M. Inspector after the 1879 explosion to stop the use of naked lights and introduce safety lamps throughout the mine.
