H. Harkewitz / Threlkeld Granite Company

Threlkeld quarry was opened in the 1870s by H. Harkewitz, a German-descended businessman, to supply railway ballast; he formed the Threlkeld Granite Co in 1892 to run it alongside a precast concrete works, before the firm merged into the Keswick Granite Company in 1936.
