Godolphin family

The Godolphin family held the land and mineral rights at Great Work from at least the mine's opening in 1538 until ownership passed to the Duke of Leeds in 1785. Sir William Godolphin's workings here were, per John Leland's account, the greatest tin works in Cornwall in the mid-16th century.
