Glenboig Union Fireclay Company
Formed in 1882 by the merger of the two rival Glenboig firms, and by the end of the century reputed the largest fireclay company in the world. It won 22 prize medals at international exhibitions, held contracts with the home and Indian Governments, and supplied firebrick for Siemens furnaces, steelworks, glassworks and gas retorts across Europe and beyond.
