Cement makers who opened the Thames works west of Mill Lane at Purfleet in 1872, drawing chalk from quarries to the south of Millwood House. It was at this works that Frederick Ransome's rotary kiln was first used. The firm was taken over by Associated Portland Cement Manufacturers in 1900.
