MineArchiveGeorge Insole & Son
The Cardiff coal business of George Insole and his son James Harvey Insole, pioneers of the Cardiff coal trade. They bought Cymmer Colliery in 1844 and sank its Old Pit in 1847; James took control on his father's death in 1851 and drove the pit's expansion through the Crimean War coal boom. The company worked the Old Pit until it closed in 1939, and James Insole's house at Llandaff survives as Insole Court.
