George Burt

A Victorian businessman and developer of the adjoining Durlston estate, Burt opened Tilly Whim Caves as a tourist attraction in 1887, blasting a new entrance and adding inscriptions and seating around the wider park rather than working the quarries themselves, which had fallen silent decades earlier.
