Egremont Mining Company

The Egremont Mining Company was formed by Florence Mine's own workforce, using their redundancy payments to buy the Cumbrian iron mine after British Steel withdrew in 1980; with pumping support from British Nuclear Fuels Ltd, the miner-owned company kept Britain's last deep iron ore mine working until 2007.
