D’Arcy Chaytor

Colonel D’Arcy Chaytor, an accomplished mining engineer from New Zealand, who bought Pooley Hall Colliery from its previous owners after the First World War. He arranged the Duke of York’s visit in 1924 as a reward for the men, and his brother’s Tamworth Electricity Company employed many of the colliery’s strikers digging cable ditches during the 1926 General Strike.
