Chatterley Whitfield Collieries Limited

Chatterley Whitfield Collieries Ltd was formed in January 1891 to unite the mines and ironworks previously run by the Whitfield Colliery Company and the Chatterley Iron Company at Stoke-on-Trent. Output grew rapidly, and in 1937 the colliery became the first in Britain to extract over a million tonnes of coal in a single year; it closed in 1977.
