Charles Roe
Charles Roe (1715-1781) was a Macclesfield silk manufacturer turned copper industrialist who moved into mining at Alderley Edge and Coniston from the 1750s, building smelting works at Macclesfield and reconstituting his business as the Macclesfield Copper Company in 1774, one of the era's three largest brass producers.
