Cavendish family (Holker Estates)

William Cavendish, 2nd Earl of Burlington and later 7th Duke of Devonshire, organised Kirkby's small-scale quarrying into a single larger operation from the early 1820s; the Cavendish family, trading as Holker Estates, still owns the quarry today.
