Carr Brothers

The Northumberland partnership that worked Hartley Colliery, taking it on from Jobling, Carr and Co. Their Hester Pit was sunk as a single-shaft mine, the arrangement that killed 204 men and boys in January 1862 when the pumping engine beam broke and fell down the pit's only way out.
