Bideford Black Mining Company
Worked the Paint Seam at East-the-Water and processed the raw material into a ground pigment at its Chapel Park works, selling it as Biddiblack and, after later refinements, Bettablack. Its miners were housed at Springfield Terrace nearby. Chapel Park was the last mine in the Devon coalfield to close, in 1969.
