Basset family of Tehidy

The Basset family of Tehidy held the manor from the 12th century and became immensely wealthy in the 18th and 19th centuries by leasing their Cornish land for tin and copper mining, including Dolcoath and Cooks Kitchen — by 1873 the fourth-largest landowners in Cornwall — before selling the estate in 1916.
