B. J. Forder
Benjamin Forder, who came from Winchester to Berriton Court and is believed to have started the Buriton limeworks in about 1860, leasing two pits either side of Halls Hill from John Bonham Carter. The 1871 census records him as a limeburner employing twenty men and four boys; the firm’s name was still painted on the works stores roof facing the railway in the 1930s.
