Assheton Smith

Thomas Assheton Smith (1752-1828) was the landed proprietor of the Vaynol estate near Bangor who used his manorial rights over Dinorwig common, secured by an 1806 enclosure act, to develop the Dinorwig slate quarry into a major producer employing 800 men by 1826.
