Arthur Woolf
Arthur Woolf (1766-1837) was a Camborne-born engineer who patented the high-efficiency Woolf compound steam engine in London in 1804-05, then returned to Cornwall around 1812 to apply it to mine pumping, erecting compound engines at several Cornish mines from 1814.
