MineArchiveAnnesley Colliery Company
The original owner of the pit, formed by the Worswick family of Leicestershire who began sinking the twin shafts on 1 January 1865 and reached the Top Hard seam in 1867. It also built the Annesley Rows, the 160 colliery cottages put up between 1869 and 1873 that still form the core of the village conservation area.
