Alport Mining Company

Formed to work the Alport lead field between Youlgreave and Bakewell, and the company that carried the district's long fight against water: in 1845 it installed a hydraulic engine with twin 24-inch cylinders and a 10-foot stroke to drain the workings below the level of Hillcarr Sough. Falling lead prices in the early 1850s saw the engines advertised for sale and all the Alport mines but Prospect closed; the company folded in 1852.
