Overview

A goblin mine in the Scottish Highlands south of Hogwarts, seized in 1890 by followers of the goblin rebel Ranrok and turned into a construction site for drills meant to break into a hidden store of Ancient Magic beneath the school.

History

By 1890 the mine had been occupied by Ranrok's Loyalists, part of a goblin uprising led by Ranrok — himself a descendant of the goblin smith Bragbor the Boastful, who centuries earlier had been commissioned by a group of former Hogwarts professors known as the Keepers to help build fortified repositories of Ancient Magic out of goblin metal, then had his memory of the work erased to protect the secret. Bragbor had already recorded what he knew in journals that survived to reach Ranrok, giving him the knowledge that set the rebellion in motion.

Workings

Ranrok's Loyalists used the mine's existing tunnels and machinery to build oversized drills intended to bore into a repository of Ancient Magic hidden beneath Hogwarts itself. A player character investigating the rebellion, guided by the goblin Lodgok and a Hogwarts student able to read Gobbledegook, infiltrated the mine and recovered Ranrok's own blueprints for the drills from its innermost chamber.

What became of it

Left in the hands of Ranrok's Loyalists at the point the story visits it; its fate after Ranrok's rebellion ends is not shown.

Canon & adaptations

Drawn entirely from Hogwarts Legacy (2023), a licensed game set in 1890-91 — this is original game-canon, not an adaptation of any Rowling novel or film scene, and the mine does not appear anywhere in the book/film continuity.
