Overview
An abandoned mine near Upper Hogsfield, closed after a series of accidents, later occupied by followers of the goblin rebel Ranrok and separately hiding a fragment of the story of Isidora Morganach, a Hogwarts professor whose forbidden use of Ancient Magic set the rebellion's events in motion a century before it began.
History
Overlook Mine had already been closed for some time when Ranrok's Loyalists occupied it in 1890 as one of several bases in their search for a hidden repository of Ancient Magic. The same sealed workings also held, unrelated to the goblins' own purpose, a hidden journal entry and painted fragment connected to Isidora Morganach — a former Hogwarts Defence Against the Dark Arts professor whose secret and increasingly self-serving use of Ancient Magic, drawn from her students' and her own father's suffering, led a fellow professor to kill her with the Killing Curse generations earlier.
Workings
A player character and the Hogwarts student Sebastian Sallow, investigating a painted triptych connected to Isidora Morganach, fought through spiders and Ranrok's Loyalists into the mine's underground tunnels and recovered one of Isidora's journal entries and a canvas fragment from a sealed chamber.
Closure
Reported to have closed following a series of accidents at the site during the 19th century, well before its illegal wartime reoccupation by Ranrok's followers.
What became of it
Left in Ranrok's Loyalists' hands at the point the story visits it; the triptych fragment recovered there was used to help piece together Isidora Morganach's story.
Canon & adaptations
Drawn entirely from Hogwarts Legacy (2023) — original game-canon set in 1890-91, not present in or adapted from any Rowling novel or film.
