Overview

A sector of the Ultor Mining Complex, abandoned before the First Martian Revolution once its workings became structurally unstable, but kept as a route through the colony because of its proximity to Geothermal Facility No. 4. During the uprising it became the path Parker took, redirected by his ally Eos, toward destroying that geothermal plant.

History

Section 4 Mines had already fallen out of use as a working section of Ultor's noachite operation by the time of the uprising, abandoned because the workings had become unstable. Its continued significance came from its position: the section lay close to Geothermal Facility No. 4, one of the plants supplying power across Ultor's Martian holdings. When Parker, escaping through the colony toward what he believed was the Red Faction's base, was instead redirected by Eos toward destroying that geothermal plant, his route ran directly through the abandoned Section 4 workings — down through level 17 of the colony, past disused smelters, ore hoppers and crushers, and through unstable shafts and ventilation runs, before reaching the plant itself.

Workings

Reached via an elevator descent to level 17 of the Ultor colony. The section included disused smelters, ore hoppers and crushers left in place after the workings were abandoned, along with mine shafts and ventilation systems by then structurally unstable.

Closure

Already abandoned as an active working section before the uprising began, on account of its instability; it was not destroyed or further altered by the events of the revolution itself, merely passed through.
