Overview
A gold-mining operation in Costa Rica in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker that is, in truth, a front concealing the assembly of Peace Walker, the game's titular AI-controlled nuclear weapons platform, deep within its lowest level.
History
Mine Base presents itself as a gold-mining and quarrying operation run by Peace Sentinel, the private military force led by Hot Coldman, in Costa Rica in the early 1970s. Barracks, watchtowers, sheds and construction equipment around the open mining pit maintain the appearance of an ordinary extraction site. In truth, the mine's real purpose is concealed in its deepest chambers: hangars housing mass-produced AI weapon prototypes (Chrysalis, Cocoon and Pupa), a command post, a prison, and — in the very lowest area of the mine — the assembly hangar for Peace Walker itself, the AI-controlled nuclear weapons platform at the centre of the game's plot.
Workings
An open mining pit with the base's military infrastructure built into and around it — barracks, watchtowers and equipment sheds maintain the gold-mining cover story on the surface, while the actual weapons-assembly facilities are built into the mine's lower, deeper levels.
What became of it
Fictional — set within Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker's early-1970s storyline; not referenced as still active in later games.
Canon & adaptations
