Overview
The mine worked daily by the Seven Dwarfs in Walt Disney's 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, dug for diamonds and other gems, and the setting of the film's best-known musical number, 'Heigh-Ho.' It is not present in the original Brothers Grimm tale, where the dwarfs have no stated occupation.
History
The mine and the dwarfs' work there are entirely a Disney invention for the 1937 film; the 19th-century Grimm fairy tale it adapts never states what, if anything, its seven dwarfs did for a living.
Workings
The film gives each dwarf a specific role: Grumpy, Happy, Bashful and Sneezy dig to unearth diamonds and other gems underground; Sleepy collects the take in a mine cart and carts it up to Doc, who inspects and sorts the diamonds; rejected stones are swept up and discarded by Dopey. At the end of the working day, the diamonds are placed in a vault back at the mine entrance before the dwarfs march home singing 'Heigh-Ho.'
What became of it
Not revisited after the 'Heigh-Ho' sequence; the film's remaining action takes place at the dwarfs' cottage and, at the close, at the Queen's castle.
Recorded claims
Each claim is marked with its basis — explicit canon, MineArchive inference, adaptation only, or fandom interpretation — and attached to the source(s) below. Where tellings disagree, both are kept.
- Each dwarf has a specific role at the mine: four dig for diamonds, one carts the haul to Doc for sorting, and Dopey discards the rejected stones. (MineArchive inference, medium) 1
- The mine and the dwarfs' occupation as miners do not appear in the original Grimm fairy tale, which gives the dwarfs no stated occupation. (MineArchive inference, medium) 1
