Cause
The ignition of a small pocket of gas following the blowing out of a shot.
What happened
George Davis, aged 49, Emanuel Holmes, aged 41, Frederick Siddall, aged 36, and James Taylor, aged 53, were killed by an explosion of gas caused by the ignition of a small pocket of gas after a shot blew out. At least one of the men died later in hospital. The colliery was worked by the Hardwick Colliery Co.
