Cause
An explosion of gas in the Top Hard coal.
What happened
William Badsley and William Parson, both colliers, were killed by an explosion of gas in the Top Hard coal at Grassmoor, then worked by A. Barnes and Co. It was the first of several fatal falls and explosions the Durham Mining Museum records at the colliery over the following decades.
