A large inland Scottish county straddling the southern Highlands, whose lead mining was scattered and generally short-lived compared to the sustained output of Leadhills and Wanlockhead -- Tyndrum's own mines, the district's best-known, produced only 430 tons of lead across an 1856-65 working life, against roughly 1,000 tons a year sustained for 120 years at Leadhills and Wanlockhead combined.
