George Insole

A Cardiff coal agent and shipper who, with the trader Richard Biddle, arranged the first shipment of Waun Wyllt steam coal to London in November 1830 and afterwards the contract with Messrs Wood and Company for three thousand tons a year. He co-signed the surety bond on Robert Thomas's estate in 1833 and paid Lucy Thomas for the coal dispatched thereafter; modern research treats him as one of the chief architects of the success credited to her.
