W. Y. Craig and Sons

The firm of William Young Craig of Alsager, formerly member of parliament for North Staffordshire, who bought Brynkinalt Colliery in the 1880s. Its registered office in 1923 was at Brynkinalt Collieries, Chirk, with Donald Craig of Wrexham and Ernest Craig of Alsager among the directors, and an annual output of 250,000 tons of gas, household and steam coal. Relations between the Craigs and their men were good enough to keep the pit at work through the strike of 1912.
