Vivian and Sons

The Swansea copper dynasty, whose works at Hafod made the town the greatest copper-smelting centre in the world. Smelting on that scale ran on coal, and the family sank and bought collieries — Mynydd Newydd among them, sunk in 1843 and bought outright in 1866 — to feed it.
