Thomas Shepherd
The sinker of Cwmaman Colliery in the Aman valley above Aberdare, in partnership with H. J. Evans from 1849 and alone from 1873 until the Cwmaman Coal Company was formed in 1882. The pit was known locally as Shepherd's Pit for the rest of its life and the Shepherds Arms at Cwmaman is named after him.
