Thomas Brain and the Brain family (All Profit)
Thomas Brain of Hawthorns was granted the All Profit gale on 30 August 1842 to work the Coleford High Delf and Brazilly veins on Nofold Green. An indenture of 7 August 1846 records him and his wife Mary Ann sharing part of the gale with John Winnall and William and John Stallard, and he raised 370 tons that year. The official 1880 list of collieries at work still returns the pit under J. A. Brain.
