The Strelley family
The Nottinghamshire family who established Strelley Colliery around their own manor in the latter half of the sixteenth century, rivals of the Willoughbys of Wollaton; the less successful of the two houses, they had mortgaged their mines to London merchants by 1620 and the merchants foreclosed.
