Sir George Bruce of Carnock
Built the Moat Pit around 1590 as the centrepiece of a coal-mining and salt-panning enterprise at Culross, continued after his death by his son George Bruce II and grandsons Edward and Alexander Bruce, successive Earls of Kincardine, until the family's mining operations there ended in 1676.
