Rowland Winn

Landowner of Appleby in Lincolnshire and of Nostell Priory in Yorkshire, and the man most responsible for the Scunthorpe iron industry. He opened out the ironstone mines in 1859 and worked to get furnaces built locally rather than let the ore be carried away, which is why a steel town grew where it did.
