Rowatt & Yooll

The partnership that built and ran the Kilrenny Oil Works from 1866: Thomas Rowatt, an established Edinburgh lamp manufacturer trading as T. Rowatt and Sons of Edinburgh and London, with Alexander Yoole, who had come to east Fife to oversee the mining at Pitcorthie and kept a private interest in it. The firm sold its output through Rowatt's own lamp trade, advertising 'white non-explosive oil' alongside the patent Anucupnic lamp. Its rateable value peaked at £225 between 1870 and 1878 and the entries stop after 1879.
